play for celtic in the celtic community academy
During the four years of Celtic in the Community we have been constantly reviewing all the courses and products we are offering. It has become clear that a major missing ingredient for the youngsters who train and play the Celtic way is the fact that we have not yet made provision to play the Celtic way in actual games.
Now’s the time to remedy this. So, we’re introducing the Celtic Community Academy. The player progress pathway is clearly defined route for youngsters to be selected for the elite Celtic Youth Academy which has teams from under 11 to under 19.
This year, by introducing the Celtic Community Academy, we’re offering players Under 5 (2004 to Under 13 (1996) a fantastic new way to get a foot on the ladder, as well as an opportunity to play regular small-sided games against other centres. If, during training and in the games a player shows potential, he’ll be invited to join a Centre of Excellence . . . and who knows? The next step could be an invitation to join one of our seven Development Centres situated throughout Scotland.
the celtic community academy – how it works
Foundation Clubs
For boys under 7 (born 2004-2002) there are Foundation Clubs, where the youngsters train once a week at their local centre. They will get the chance to pit their wits and skills against other Foundation Clubs in festivals at a central venue. It’s never too young to learn to play the game.

Here’s a chance for them to practise their coordination skills, learn about teamwork, and interact with others of their own age. Perhaps the most important aspect is being introduced early to a regular, progressive regime of physical activity.
Development Clubs
For boys Under 8 to Under 13 (born 2001-1996) there are Development Clubs, where the youngsters train once a week at a local centre. At weekends they’ll play small-sided games for their local Development Club against players of their own age at other Celtic Development Clubs, at Barrowfield Training Ground. The youngsters will take part in games regardless of their ability.
Centre of Excellence Programme
The very best of the Under 8 to Under 12 (2001-1997) training at Development clubs will be invited to join a Centre of Excellence for five week cycles. During this time they will receive very careful attention and will play in matches against Celtic Youth Academy teams or other teams of appropriate age and ability. If they wish, they may continue to train and play at their Development Club.
At their weekly training sessions, an even greater demand will be placed on the players with regard to technique, tactical nous and fitness. Education in sport science and diet, practice in speed agility and quickness will be stepped up.
The players will have a self-assessment book and written feedback to the
players and their parents will be provided at the end of each cycle for discussion at a parents’ night.
Extended Player Pathway
Study the pathway and you’ll see some of the routes to becoming an established first team player at Celtic.
