new bhoy loovens hails perfect move

David Friel
GLENN LOOVENS has revealed that words of encouragement from past and present Celtic players sold him on a move to Glasgow.

Upon first hearing of the club’s interest in signing him, Dutch defender Loovens spoke to two compatriots in current Celt Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and former Hoops striker Pierre van Hooijdonk.

And Loovens admits the glowing references he received from both men helped him decide that Celtic were the right club for him.

“I spoke to a few people about Celtic and all the stories I heard were positive,” said Loovens, as he showed off the new Nike Celtic home strip, which is launched at midnight on Wednesday.

“I spoke to Jan and also to Pierre. They told me a few stories about the club and everything I heard was great. I can’t wait to get started.

“I only expect the best from this club. Rangers were interested in me, but in the end Celtic were the club I wanted to sign for. Let’s focus on that.

“I’m coming to Celtic and I want to play games. I want to give the manager a selection problem.

“This is a big step up for me. I will be competing for trophies and I will be playing in the Champions League. I see this as a big step forward in my career.”
